We are seeking a results-oriented individual with a passion for sustainability to provide technical support to Facilities Management for the identification, prioritization, and implementation of opportunities to improve building/system performance and support repair. Will have a prominent role supporting operations and maintenance across campus and the key inititaives of Facilities Management and University sustainability goals (such as achieving carbon neutrality by 2050). Coordinates with Facilities Management, Sustainability Office, Planning Design and Construction, and other related departments.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Regular office hours MondayFriday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work outside of these hours required as needed.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supports Facilites Management and other stakeholders in identifying root-cause issues and defining specific, cost-effective solutions.
  2. Creates engineering and performance-based designs/specifications to support implementation of improvement projects, operational changes, and repair.
  3. Technical lead for life cycle cost analysis and measurement and verification of improvement projects. Ensures projections are to an appropriate level of accuracy to support funding requirements and confirms whether projects achieve and maintain performance goals.
  4. Coordinates with Project Managers and Facilities Managers to assure that operational needs are addressed during the MEP design and construction process.
  5. Responsible for keeping abreast of current and future market trends in sustainable design for buildings and central utility plants
  6. Responsible for representing sustainability strategy, goals and progress to the University through team training and advocacy.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 years or more of direct experience with the design, construction, and operations and maintenance of higher education and healthcare buildings/systems.
  • Must be well-versed with design, operation and maintenance of large-scale mechanical systems, HVAC control theory, building automation systems, and the commissioning process.
  • Must have deep understanding of how building systems impact safety, reliability, occupant comfort, and efficiency.
  • Strong verbal, written, computer, technical communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated human relation skills.

 

PREFERENCES:

  • License for Professional Engineering or have the qualifications to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
  • LEED AP accreditation.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and MasterSpec to support production of drawings and specifications.
  • Strong preference for experience with life cycle cost analysis, accounting, measurement and verification (M&V), monitoring-based commissioning, fault detection and diagnostics, renewable energy systems, and utility incentive programs.
  • Advanced degree in related field.
  • Active membership and participation in professional societies related to the industry.
