The Division of Pediatric Clinical Enterprise at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Pediatric Specialty Scheduler. The Pediatric Specialty Scheduler will answer phones and triage patient concerns in a fast-paced, team environment. We are seeking detail-oriented, high-performing individuals who love to learn. The Division of Pediatric Clinical Enterprise is continually evolving as we look for better ways to serve patients, families, and health care providers.


This position is housed in a call center, separate from clinic locations.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours/week, MondayFriday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


COMPENSATION: $13.02 to $18.88/hour DOE. Strong benefit package including tuition reduction program, retirement and health plan options.



  1. Answer and triage a high volume of incoming calls from parents, physicians, pharmacies, labs, etc.
  2. Quickly and effectively switch between calls and other assigned tasks.
  3. Schedule and register patients in Epic for multiple divisions in the Department of Pediatrics, including complex coordination of various specialties and testing.
  4. Correspond via email, phone, and Electronic Medical Records with department physicians and staff.
  5. Maintain and utilize organized work lists, including reminder calls, wait lists, referrals, registration, insurance verification, and filling clinics.
  6. Comply with Federal and University privacy guidelines (including HIPAA) in entering health information into Electronic Medical Records.
  7. Perform other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS: One year of continuous office experience or equivalency; basic computer skills; and successful completion of a medical terminology course provided by the hospital within the first year of employment required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required. Experience with ICD-9 and CPT 4 coding may be preferred. One year experience in patient registration, admitting or related work may be preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care.



  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to navigate four to eight concurrent computer programs effectively
  • Typing speed of 40 WPM or more
  • Medical office scheduling and phone customer service experience preferred
  • Fluent Spanish speaking skills
  • Epic skills and medical terminology

  • Ability to use ten-key by touch
