Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist position in the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah to work on DHS project Machine Learning and Signature Analysis of Nuclear Forensic Data. The SCI Institute at the University of Utah conducts original research to establish the scientific capabilities that govern the design, performance, and integration of computational tools into scientific platforms. This appointment will be for 12 months in duration with the possibility of extension based on the availability of funding.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours/week, days.

RESPONSIBILITIES: As a postgraduate researcher you will work with Dr. Tolga Tasdizen on machine learning and deep learning techniques to segment, classify and predict attributes of microscopy images of nuclear material. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team to realize the full potential and utility of deep learning for unlocking the potential revolutionary speed-ups to particle analysis in microscopy datasets. You will also perform basic research in semi-supervised learning and domain adaptation techniques and apply them to natural and microscopy images.



PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Physics Strong research background in machine learning, image processing and computer vision. Experience with programming software (e.g. Python, C/C++, MATLAB Experience with machine learning tools (Tensorflow, Caffe2, PyTorch, MxNet) This project is funded by DHS: All qualified applicants must be a US citizen or a US Permanent resident.



Strong background in mathematics and statistics. Experience with Electron Microscopy. Good communication and collaboration skills.
